How imortant are proofreading and editing in our digital world?

Think of how many times you’re reading during the course of the day: Newspapers. Magazines. Billboard Ads. Books. Websites. Blog sites.  Behind every successful sentence that catches your eye is a proofreader/editor hard at work.

If you love the process of creating a beautiful template of words, proofreading and editing jobs, on a freelance or full-time basis for publications, are available in abundance. Learn the skills to find a job that allows you to work your own hours and get paid a competitive salary.

This class will give you a complete primer on proofreading and editing. You’ll learn everything you need to know to establish yourself as a proofreader/editor, including proofreading symbols and editing marks. You’ll gain a sense of how to edit, with plenty of opportunity to practice on a variety of materials. You will also be given several punctuation and grammar tools. At the end of the course, you’ll learn about job opportunities for proofreaders and editors.

Bring a fine-point red pen! And a sharp mind.

Instructor:  Alison Moran-Powers has been editing publications since 1987. She's done it all... newsletters, brochures, magazines, digital media presentations, annual reports, and community newspapers. She is also the creator and writer of the award-winning blog, ‘Token Female’ on ChicagoNow. Some advice from this veteran writer? "It's the details that'll kill you. Read critically and read again!"
